LinkWithin Widget
April 06, 2009
One of our fabulous support team members, just discovered a great new widget called LinkWithin. and it adds link below each of your posts to other related posts. Zalary posts:
"I know lots of TypePad subscribers have been asking about this type of functionality, so I was very excited to try this widget and find it works so well!"
Try it out for yourself today.
Thanks, Zalary!
I'm installing it right now. It's a very helpful function for readers who wish to read more on a similar topic but don't wish go searching.
Cheers!

I've been using LinkWithin for about a week now and my stats have gone up dramatically... this is exactly the sort of widget I've been hoping for! Love it!

Cool idea. Easy to implement and I like the look of it. Any way to center the widget as it appears on my blog? I have a two column layout with a wide main column and having the LinkWithin links appear flush left looks a bit odd.

I love this widget on other blogs but has caused problems for me and there's still not great support out there. It's been almost 2 weeks and problem is still not fixed. IT's still great though :)

Hmmm, just occurred to me that it will only link to posts that have images attached to them...

Does not appear to work in TypePad Basic…?
Posted by: Account Deleted | April 06, 2009 at 09:19 PM
That is really really great! Thank you!

This is the kind of functionality that I wish Typepad itself could provide. That way, we'd be able to increase page views without having that third-party link always below our content. It probably wouldn't be as wonky either.

I just installed this widget. I think I might like it. I look forward to hearing comments from my readers.

Very appealing. Thanks for the heads-up on this one.

What an extraordinary widget indeed. Thanks, guys!

Well, the jury is still out after a few hours. The widget has come and gone and come and now gone again. Not sure what happens to it...

I've been using it and it is great for bringing up all those older posts. A bit buggy but good.

After using it for a day and testing it through multiple computers and browsers, I have to say, this widget is pretty cool. But there are three main issues:
(1) every click is forced into a new window,
(2) there's no ability to stylize the look and appearance, and
(3) the code is java script and tends to come and go.
Maybe there's a way to fix these three issues myself, but I can't figure it out. If TypePad were to create a similar widget, I bet they could find a way to fix the above three problems and provide a satisfying experience for TypePad users. Plus, the comments indicate that TypePad users would love functionality like this ...
Which makes me wonder: why not create a SixApart App Store? I'd happily pay $10, $20, $30, or even $100 to buy tested and working widgets/apps like this that I could fully integrate into my blog without the above glitches. Seriously, there should be an app store.

Very nice, I used it on http://blog.captive-aquatics.com. Thanks!

I've tried to install it on each of my four blogs. Crashes when the application reaches Typepad. Doesn't appear ready for prime tome. The references to poor customer service also kills this for me.

Thanks for the Tip
Installed it yesterday on 'Serge the Concierge'
I think the use of photos or illustrations for each 'suggestion' is great, much better than a plain link.
Keep sharing good tools like that

The last few posts all show the same "link within" recommendations.

Ok - I've asked support to take another look. I'll follow up from the ticket. :)
Posted by: Ginevra | April 08, 2009 at 02:53 PM
No I haven't. When I came back to this thread and saw some of the comments about shaky Java and customer support issues I said "wait and see". The level of documentation was minimal. I may take a later look, I'll follow this thread and see where everyone is after the Easter holiday. The concept looks great. My blogs are photography, art blogs. Right now I reference two older posts within each new post, links not pictures. So, it would offer some improvement. Kinda a long answer!

Just installed this, and it was the easiest installation of a widget EVER. It started working immediately, and beautifully. Can't wait to check out the results!

Here's the answer from the support team. It works, hooray!
Widgets are placed in your blog's sidebar only. Some widgets, including LinkWithin and ShareThis, place script in your blog's sidebar which will be hidden in the sidebar. The script will place content within your blog's post. We recommend placing these types of widget at the end of the far right column.

Easy to install. Thx for the tips. A great feature to keep older content in circulation. I agree with Preston Koerner -- better if the app was a Typepad addition.
I am a bit concerned about my password being used to access my Typepad account from Linkedwithin. Should I be?
It is wonky so far...unless it only works on the most recent posts? Is true or it just isn't fully operating on my blog?
Posted by: Luci Weston | April 10, 2009 at 08:17 AM
Oops...I meant LinkWithin.
Posted by: Luci Weston | April 10, 2009 at 11:23 AM
I tried it, I would love it if it worked for me. Sometimes the widget would appear on my main page under the story, which I did not like, while other times you would have to click on the story and it would appear down at the bottom near the comment box, which i loved. Can you help?
Posted by: Gary Snyder | April 10, 2009 at 11:49 AM
I added it, I loved it, then overnight it went away.
What's up with that?
Too many new users maybe?
It looked and worked great last night. But now? I got nothin'.
Posted by: Joe B. | April 10, 2009 at 04:48 PM
I just checked, and today it seems to be working. Older posts are listed w/pics at the bottom of every post. I hope it is still there tomorrow, it does seem to be garnering hits on the older highlighted posts!

Terrific widget! It looks so great on my blog... thanks Zalary!

Great widget. I just wish you could alter the appearance somehow.
Posted by: Account Deleted | April 17, 2009 at 06:39 AM
Silly question, but how do I get rid of this widget? There's no x to click on to delete it.
Posted by: Melissa | May 23, 2009 at 05:24 PM
Hi Melissa! If you're having trouble removing it, the best way to figure this out is to open a trouble ticket with our support team. They'll be better able to figure out why you're not seeing a way to remove this.
