TypePad Traffic Tip #4. Build Your Following
November 10, 2009
The new TypePad Dashboard is updated with your latest activity on TypePad. To encourage your readers to follow you, add the Follow Module to your sidebar. Then their Dashboards will update every time you post, comment or favorite.
Here's how to add the Follow Module:
- Go to Blogs > (Your Blog) > Design > Content. The Content page displays.
- From the Modules list, select TypePad profile.
- Click Add this module. A pop-up appears letting you specify the colors for the module – the defaults should be just fine. If you want the module to show how many people you are following and how many are following you, check the checkbox at the top.
- Click OK and the pop-up closes.
- Drag-and-drop the TypePad Profile module where you'd like it to appear and Save changes.
- View blog and a TypePad Profile module appears
in your sidebars.
Note: If you are signed in and viewing your own blog, the module will show a link to your dashboard. Sign out of TypePad if you'd like to see the module how your readers will see it.
Power tip: Put it at the top of your blog's sidebar.

I think this is a wonderful thing to have on your blog. It gives viewers a chance to see blogs that interest you and people who are interested in you. I've taken a look at many Typepad blogs and most don't have this on their blogs. There are so many blogs that I would like to follow, but the Follow Module is not present. I hope lots of people take a look at this tip and install it on their module.
Keep up the good work Typepad Team!!

If there isn't a link present on the blog, is there a way to follow at all?

From your keyboard to all TypePadders' consciousness! I can't tell you how many TypePad bloggers I've wanted to follow, but haven't been able to because they don't include any sort of profile link!

If you find their profile page, you can follow them from there. If they don't have it up, you can always send them a note saying you'd love to start following them on TypePad. It could be that they don't know about the follow module yet.

It's a relatively new feature and there are bloggers that still don't know about it. For my favorite bloggers that don't have the feature visible, I've emailed them directly asking them to add the follow module.

This may sound ridiculous, but as a new TypePad user, I cannot understand where you find a list of other TypePad bloggers in the first place..

I've tried e-mailing, and asking via Twitter, but apparently, I don't have your social skills. :(
At least with Micro and Chroma, the profile module is automagical.

Welcome to TypePad! A good place to start would be to check out our new TypePad Directory at http://featured.typepad.com - it's a good place to find a lot of new people to follow. And keep an eye on your dashboard to see what your favorite bloggers are doing: who they're following on and commenting on can give you whole new circles of people and good content.
