Introducing Clean, A New Theme From TypePad
December 23, 2011
Today, we're introducing Clean, a brand new theme with a minimalist design that's great for displaying large photos and making the most of your content. It's full of really great features that we can't wait for you to try out. Here are just a few of the awesome things you'll notice when you apply the Clean theme to your blog:
- Displays large images beautifully.
- Enhanced mobile viewing for folks on the go.
- Want to add a custom banner? There's a tool for that.
- Features an extra clean, beautifully minimal design with lots of white space.
- Using a single column layout? Your blog footer is customizable and ready for content.
The most exciting thing about Clean isn't what we've done with it, it's what you can do with it.
Are you a design and coding enthusiast? Make the Clean theme your own by using our brand new, hands on Style Guide to completely customize the look and feel of your blog. Into color? Change things up with different shades from Eggplant to Orange:
Ready to rock the Clean theme? Head to your Dashboard. Click to Blogs > Design > Choose a theme. Click on Clean, and you're there!
Clean is our gift to you this holiday season; it's a deceptively simple, powerful theme that will help your blog make a big impact. We could not be more excited to premiere it, and we hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!
We'd love to know what you think, so tell us all about it in the comments!
Great work, crew!

I love it! I discovered it last night and jumped on it even before the Typepad folks got a chance to announce it...
Thanks again Typepad!!

Cool. But I’ve already been using what you may call a cleaner version of “Clean” for ages through the Theme Builder. The clean, white look is always the best, I believe.

Hi Nicole - Thanks, and your site looks great! You can change the column widths in the Custom CSS using this http://themes.typepad.com/guide/2011/12/column-widths-3col.html
It looks like something like this will work well with your setup:
.layout-three-column #alpha { width:262px;}
.layout-three-column #beta { width:540px; }
.layout-three-column #gamma { width:215px; }
#container { width: 1060px; }
This changes the widths of the columns to give it more room for the sidebar items you have. It also bumps up the total width from 1000px to 1060px to give you a little more room in there. You can play with the numbers there to get it exactly how you're thinking!
Also take a look at this article in the cookbook: http://themes.typepad.com/guide/2011/12/banner-no-text.html
Since you have a banner that has the text built into it already, if you paste that in it will remove the banner text at the top to let your banner show through.
Yay! Fun stuff!

Hi Nicole! To set up an email subscription box on your blog, we use and recommend FeedBurner. FeedBurner has a lot of awesome features to make your feed stand out, including a great, easy to install (one button right there on the site!) option for adding an email subscription to TypePad. First, you need to start an account at feedburner.com (log in with your Google credentials) and then, go to your TypePad account to connect. We have all the information you'll need to do that right here:
