Do You Login With Google+? You Will Want To Read This!

Do You Login With Google+_ You will want to read this!

If you have not heard, Google + is gone. At the end of last year Google announced they were shutting down Google + because they just were not meeting the expectations they set out for their customers.

So what does this mean for Google + and Typepad?

Well, you will want to review your blog and make a few changes if needed. Let's walk through those changes.

Logging in with Google +

Some bloggers may be using Google + to log into their Typepad account. As of right now, your login will work. We believe at some point Google may disable the Google + authentication and we want you to have another way to access your account.

Google Plus Login

We suggest you add an email address and password to your account. It is easy to add to your account and you can still use the Google + authentication.

Click on the Account tab, next to Email Address enter your email address. Scroll down and click on Save Changes. We will then send you an email to verify the email address. Please click on the link in the email to verify the email address.

Next, you need to add a password. On the Account tab, scroll down to Password.  Click the "Add a password" link. Then you will be prompted to add a password to your account. Once you have added a password, you can use the email address and password for your account to sign in instead of the external account.

Links to your Google + page

If you have a link to your Google + page, you want to check to make sure it is still working. Starting April 2nd, Google will start to remove content from the site. You want to make sure any links to your Google + are removed from your blog.

The most common way bloggers have links to their social media accounts is through Other Accounts. Click on the Account tab, then click on Other Accounts. Here you will see a list of social media sites you have linked to your Typepad account. Next to Google + click on Delete. You will get a pop up that ask if you want to delete this account, click on OK.

Another way bloggers add links to their social media accounts is through the Embed Your Own HTML module. You will need to edit this module to remove the code for Google +. Click on the Design tab, then click on Content. Find the module that has your social media code and click on the pencil to edit. Remove the code for Google + then click on OK > Save Changes.

If you are unsure how to remove the Google + icons from your blog, reach out to us. We are always happy to help. You can create a ticket in your account (Help > New Ticket) or email us at [email protected]
